Heads Up, Windows 11 Users: SSDs Disappearing After Latest Update

If you’ve recently updated Windows 11 with the August 12, 2025 (KB5063878) patch, you might notice something unusual with your solid-state drive (SSD). Some users are reporting that their SSDs are going missing—or suddenly showing up as RAW—especially during large file transfers like game downloads or updates.

This issue isn’t widespread, but it’s serious enough to warrant caution.

Who’s Affected?

  • DRAM-less SSDs (such as Corsair MP600, WD SN5000)

  • Drives that are 60%+ full

  • Systems performing large file transfers

Note: Not all users are affected. So far, reports are limited to a specific set of configurations.

Symptoms to Watch For:
  • SSD disappears from File Explorer or even the BIOS

  • Random system crashes

  • I/O (input/output) errors during transfers

What You Can Do Right Now

Until Microsoft and SSD manufacturers roll out a fix, here are a few precautions:

  1. Pause Windows Updates to avoid installing KB5063878 if you haven’t already.

  2. Avoid heavy file transfers (especially large downloads or updates).

  3. Check your SSD firmware—manufacturers may release patches.

  4. Back up your data immediately. This is the most important step.

The Bottom Line

Microsoft and SSD vendors are actively investigating the issue. If you’re experiencing these problems, report it directly to Microsoft and your SSD manufacturer—your feedback helps speed up the fix.

In the meantime, we recommend staying cautious, keeping backups, and holding off on massive file transfers until more information becomes available.
