Sometimes clients come to us with what sounds like a simple request, and those are often the projects that turn into the most meaningful transformations.

That’s exactly what happened when a growing firm reached out to replace an aging Synology NAS. Their goal was straightforward: modern hardware, better reliability, and a clean data migration. We designed a role‑based access structure that actually matched how the business operates. Users were grouped by role, permissions were assigned intentionally, and access was limited to what each person needed to do their job, nothing more. Almost immediately, the environment became more secure, more organized, and easier to manage.

As the discovery continued, we uncovered another opportunity: email and collaboration. The firm was running on Google Workspace, but security controls were minimal, and centralized management was limited. For a growing organization, this created unnecessary risk and friction.

After evaluating their needs, we recommended migrating to Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Once the transition was complete, the difference was night and day. Stronger identity security, better collaboration tools, and enterprise‑grade controls all came together in a single, unified platform.

From there, we enrolled all company devices in Microsoft Intune. That allowed us to put compliance policies, security baselines, and endpoint protections in place across the board. Instead of managing devices reactively, the firm now had consistency, visibility, and control.

Only then did we circle back to where the conversation originally started, the new Synology NAS. Integrated into this modern environment, it became part of a secure, scalable system rather than a standalone piece of hardware.
